Dr. Ahmed K. Elsayed
Dr. Ahmed received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Anatomy and Embryology from Suez Canal University, Egypt. He obtained his Ph.D. in Developmental Biology from Yangzhou University (China) in 2015. During his PhD, he worked on screening of several pathways and genes that are involved in controlling the differentiation of embryonic stem cells into primordial germ stem cells (PGSCs) and subsequently to the spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) based on RNA-Seq and DNA microarray revealing a way to solve the hurdles of the male sterility and infertility. His research focused on the development of the endocrine glands especially the adrenal glands revealing its primordia and differentiation mechanism. Dr Ahmed has vast experience in the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) by over expressing the main pluripotency factors (OSCK) through the mRNA-based method that eliminates the risk of DNA integration and obstacles of protein based method. The above mentioned research experience encouraged Dr. Ahmed to deepen his understanding of certain incurable diseases such as diabetes, etc. through generation of iPSCs from the patients’ somatic cells and its differentiation into diabetes-relevant cells. Dr. Ahmed joined Dr. Abdelalim’s team in March 2017, where he is involved in several projects related to the use of hPSCs for understanding the pathophysiology of insulin resistance and diabetes.
