BIOGRAPHY


Dr Qoronfleh has more than 20 years business, science and technology experience with a wide range of operational and strategy responsibilities. These include strategic planning, scientific direction, R&D management and product development, business development and marketing & sales strategy. He has held several senior management and executive positions with increasing responsibilities at GSK, Sanofi-Aventis, NIH-NCI, AntexPharma, ThermoFisher, NextGen Sciences and SDIX.
Dr Qoronfleh obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Louisville–School of Medicine, received his MBA from Penn State University and acquired certification in marketing from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
He is the founder of three biotechnology companies (HT Expression, Q-Pharma & Minerva Bioscience) and co-founder and managing director of the boutique consulting company Q3CG. Dr Qoronfleh is the principal investigator of a 2-year funded program to build state-wide medical research infrastructure within Michigan Universities Medical Centers ($3.2M). As a co-applicant, he was awarded a 7-year funded NIH grant to establish a proteomic center at the Medical College of Wisconsin ($16M).
Dr Qoronfleh is an ad hoc reviewer for various scientific journals and a frequent speaker at international conferences. He is also editor of two journals (Journal of Social & Economical Issues of Biotechnology and The Scientific World JOURNAL– Proteins & Proteomics). Dr. Qoronfleh also holds a patent on gene expression.
In 2006, Dr. Qoronfleh was an active member of the Arab Expatriate Scienttists group in Qatar. He is also one of the main co-authors for the planning document for the establishment of Qatar Biomedical Research Institute, which was developed in collaboration with leading Arab expatriate scientists and scientists in Qatar (2007-2008).
 

RESEARCH
INTEREST

Dr Qoronfleh has a research interest in medical microbiology, specifically in the study of pathogenic bacteria and antibiotic-resistance (methicillin-resistance, vancomycin-resistance). Also, host-bacteria interaction, pathogenesis, stress (heat-shock) proteins and anti-bacterials, using various tools (molecular biology, genomics, genetics, protein biochemistry, protein profiling and mass spectrometry-based proteomics).
Biotechnology & diagnostics are other areas of interest, including the discovery of anti-infective, anti-cancer and anti-inflammation drugs (natural products, proteomics). He is also interested in the discovery and assay development of disease protein biomarkers, such as cancer (discovery, validation, multiplex assay development using poly and monoclonal antibodies) with the ultimate goal to commercialize protein biomarkers for diagnostics and personalized medicine.
In addition, Dr Qoronfleh is interested in healthcare research with an emphasis on the study of the impact of public policy on the healthcare environment and of biotechnology on social and economic welfare, including the impact of personalized medicine on healthcare.

Dr Qoronfleh is also involved on different levels in government-university-industry, through research, technology and commercialization partnerships as well as higher education, research capacity building and grant program management.

BIOGRAPHY


Dr. Chong started in 2007 at QF Strategic Planning Directorate with emphasis in science, research strategy and business planning and later moved to QF Research Division to help with research operations, the Qatar Science Leadership program, business development and grants. Dr. Chong has hands-on experience working closely with functional groups and business units to provide support on all strategic operational issues, center planning, budgeting and reporting whilst ensuring consistency with the company's strategic directions and priorities. Previously, Dr. Chong had work in different settings such as consulting, finance, standards and technology assessments with the National Standards and Research Organization, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Hewlett Packard. Dr. Chong graduated from University of Cambridge in Strategic Knowledge Management and University of Manchester in Engineering Science.

Dr. Chong has written papers with regards to managing knowledge in professional organizations and is interested in the linkages between knowledge, innovation and value. Dr. Chong is keen to further develop the transformational studies of 1st and 2nd generation R&D settings making the leap into 3rd or 4th generations R&D beyond. He is a Member of Engineering Management UK and Malaysia Institute of Management.

BIOGRAPHY


Hamda Al-Mutawa holds the position of Research Quality Assurance Manager at QBRI-Medical Genetics Center since April 2014. Her position involves developing, implementing, and maintaining organization-wide total quality management and quality assurance (TQM/QA) programs. She provides TQM/QA assistance to senior management, principal investigators, and laboratory managers and serves as the QBRI representative on quality & safety matters. Ms. Al-Mutawa is also responsible for maintaining CAP (College of American Pathologists) and ISO Quality Management Systems, ensuring that policies and procedures are closely followed to achieve sustainable highest standards of performance, while maintaining health and safety measures and disaster preparedness.
Ms. Al-Mutawa received her B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Science Program from Qatar University. Prior to her current position, she was Quality Manager in Shafallah Medical Genetics Center for 4 years and she was engaged in research and laboratory management for molecular and genetics applications. Her certification as ISO Lead Auditor and Six Sigma-trained green belt helped her promoting continuous process improvement (CPI) methodologies, as well as implementation of effective corrective actions and problem solving solutions using Root Cause Analysis tools.

BIOGRAPHY


Lina Hassna is Planning Director at QBRI. She has multidimensional educational experiences ranging from a B.Sc. degree in Biomedical Science, Qatar University (2005) to a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA), Qatar University (2010) which has enhanced her administration knowledge and ability. She recently focused on project and portfolio management and has been certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP) by the Project Management Institute (PMI), USA.
Lina started her career in 2005 at Hamad Medical Cooperation as a lab technologist. It provided her with a rich knowledge and experience of technical aspects in biomedical science, which is a key element for her current position.
Lina joined the Qatar Science Leadership Program (QSLP) in 2009 with an ambition to lead and actively participate in the development and administration of research and development.
After graduating from QSLP, she joined QBRI in 2011 as Program Manager where she is an active team member in the development and building of infrastructure.
